Hosted by DJA team members, this is a space for Disabled journalists to come together for support, information-sharing, and community building. This month’s  event is being hosted on May 28 from 6-8 PM Eastern and will focus on a professional development presentation led by DJA team member John Loeppky.

Pitching as a journalist, whether you’re inside of a newsroom as a staffer or outside of one as a freelancer, can be daunting. How long should it be? What should you include? Is it wasted labor? Can I pitch multiple people at once? All good questions with complicated answers. During this session, John will lead participants through a series of activities so that they can leave the session with a pitch that is fleshed out and, with a few tweaks, should be ready to go to your outlet of choice. John will give some examples—the good and the bad–of pitches he’s sent and will help bring much needed story concepts to fruition.

As a rule, all information shared among group members in these meetings should remain private and contained to the meeting space. Group members who are concerned about security and privacy should feel free to use an alternate name or otherwise remain anonymous. Group members should feel comfortable participating with the cameras off and/or through the chat function if necessary. The meeting may be recorded with the permission of those in attendance to help improve DJA’ educational offerings and to be provided in future to program participants.

This call will be CART captioned (or, in the unusual event of CART provider absence, auto-captioned through Zoom). Please let us know below if you require any other accommodations (described in registration intake form).
