This month’s community meeting will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 6PM – 8PM EST. This month’s gathering will include a training session on how media workers can enter into or sustain themselves in the audio production world through a disability-led lens. It will be presented by DJA’s Ariana Martinez.
Event Description:
The Audio Production Landscape for Media Workers. Ariana will draw from their professional experience working as an audio producer, sound designer, and engineer for public broadcasting, for-profit podcast production companies, and independent media initiatives to explain how and why media workers in other disciplines might find ways to learn audio production skills and network within the audio journalism landscape. We’ll discuss what’s needed to build a low-cost, high-value audio production setup in terms of software and equipment, what kinds of projects audio storytelling might the useful for, and where to find community and professional development opportunities to help build audio skills. This is not an audio editing or production tutorial, but DJA is considering this offering if members express interest in a more hands-on technical training.
As a rule, all information shared among group members in these meetings should remain private and contained to the meeting space. Group members who are concerned about security and privacy should feel free to use an alternate name or otherwise remain anonymous. Group members should feel comfortable participating with the cameras off and/or through the chat function if necessary. With the permission of those in the space, the training session portion of this event may be recorded.
